Ain't nobody got time for that

Let's talk about the fact that I've been using Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo for like 6 months. All has been hunky doory until I saw this news story on Well that's just lovely, isn't it? From the news story, you'll see I haven't been using the exact product that was recalled, but it's from the same product line. Ain't nobody got time for that.
So I did what any person would do.

I ever so gently (yea right) grabbed the bottle of shampoo and conditioner and chunked them. Thinking about those poor women from the news story... bless their hearts.

I then proceeded to drive my happy butt over to Target. This gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new shampoo and conditioner. And you know I had to go all out. I went from buying $3 shampoo (Suave) to $20 shampoo. Yikes. This stuff better work.

What kind did I get???

I have heard so many great things about these products, and I currently use the Miracle Leave-In Hair Spray (with Keratin) so I had to try out more of the product line. So tell me, have any of you used this stuff? Do you swear by it?!

Let a sista know. Moving on.

Two things that made me happy yesterday:
+ This necklace for $9.95!
+ My latest online Ulta order. This girl has become obsessed with make up and beauty products.

YAY Friday. Happy 3 day weekend, friends!

Thursday Things

Just a few random points that I'd like to make today. Read along, why dontcha?

+ I may have to wait until next week to do a full Nashville recap. My week has been nutzo with me being off work Friday and Monday. Not to mention, I was in meetings all day yesterday. So catching up with work is definitely a high priority!

+ Thanks to Jordon, I will now have an even bigger online shopping addiction with e-bates. I swear I wanted to buy something JUST to buy something. Is that so wrong???

+ I watched the VMA's again last night. Couldn't get enough of JT and Nsync, thank you very much. After their performance, I dozed off and took the most awesome 20 minute nap ever. Hubby woke me up holding a burger that he had grilled for dinner. Pretty fantastic.

+ Let's talk about the most important topic at hand: the fact that this weekend is a three day weekend makes me SO stinking HAPPY. No lie. Today our new cable provider will be installing our new equipment and we will get 3 months free of premium channels (ex: HBO, Showtime, etc). We've pretty much decided that we're going to have movie marathons and whatnot all weekend. Monday will be spent doing yardwork. Do I sound like an old fart now?

+ I ordered Alien perfume, due to me obsessing over the scent from Jessica! I am more than just excited. I am checking the order status constantly. If there's one thing that I am in this lifetime, it's a perfume addict. Self proclaimed, that is.

+ Let's just mention Ashley in this post too, since I already mentioned my other two Blogger BFFs.

+ School is officially under way for Fall 2013. I am enrolled in two classes and will be finishing up my master's degree in one year from this semester. Fall 2014, I can smell you already!

Taste of Tuesday: Spanish Rice

Quick I Confess Sesh...

I am a picky eater. My blog BFF's found that out this past weekend. My food choice usually consists of meat, a carb (lovely, I know) and a veggie. But if I could have it my way, I'd eat beans and rice for every.single.meal.

Here's a quick and easy Spanish Rice recipe that you can make from the comfort of your own home.
2 tbsps oil
2 tbsps onion (chopped)
1 &1/2 cups brown rice (uncooked)
2 cups chicken broth
1 cup chunky salsa
Salt and pepper to taste

Once you've got your rice all finished, pair it with your homemade beef enchiladas and enjoy! I'll post my recipe for the enchiladas in the future! Yummo!
I chowed down dinner while watching a little Real Housewives of OC Reunion Part III. And WHOA is really all I gotta say.
Sorry for getting side tracked. Anyways, go cook yourself some Spanish Rice and eat up! Don't forget to link up with Ashley and Jessica!

Weekend Update

Can we first talk about something extremely important? Like the fact that Nsync reunited last night.
I will... FOREVER... be an Nsync fan. Gawd. My poor husband heard me screaming throughout the entire house last night when watching the VMA's. I was on the verge of tears. Seriously. Incredible. The money that I would pay for an Nsync reunion tour...

Other than seeing Nsync reunite, I did have a SUPREME weekend. Wanna know why!?

I got to spend a girls weekend in Nashville, TN with Ashley, Jessica, and Jordon! EEK! Is this real life?! Yep, it sure is. And we had the best.time.ever.
My heart is so happy!

Friday started out early. Oh, just 3am. I had to wake up and get ready for the day. Then, my flight was delayed. BOO!  But once we got to Nashville, it completely made up for it.

The food was seriously amazing, and Broadway reminded me so much of 6th street in Austin.

My favorite part of the weekend?
Getting friendship necklaces to bond us together forevs. Seriously. These girls.

Anyways, I will try to do a full recap sometime this week, but as you can imagine, I've been crazy busy. Not to mention, I am exhausted from my flights/layovers. All you REALLY need to know: I love these girls and we had the best weekend ever!

Five on Friday

Happy Friday Lovebugs! I dunno about you, but I'm super excited that it's the end of the week. Anyways, let's do this, Five on Friday! Holler.

I haven't had my nails professionally done in forevs, so when I finally went to the salon, it was nice. Typically I paint my own nails, but they're so much better than I am! Aren't they so prittay???
As exhausted as I already am from two semesters of graduate school, I am looking forward to classes starting for fall. What a world of difference it makes to be completely and utterly interested in the course subjects.
I recently purchased something on Groupon and it didn't work out. It wasn't exactly a scam, but the company which I purchased the deal for had awful customer service. Luckily, Groupon happily gave me a refund. Can you say awesome customer service? In return, I purchased a nice little photo sesh for $19 buck-a-roos. So, the Skinner family (aka Me, Hubby, Layla, and Zoey) will be having a family photo shoot in November. YIPPIE!
So excited for the upcoming holiday. Hubby and I have lots of yard work plans for this day. I love it when we can spend time together sprucing up our humble abode!
5. DIY.
I totally plan on making something very similar for our front door! I love almost everything about this pretty thang! Plus, it switches things up from your typical wreath.

Six things

I vote that we go over six random things you may be curious about yours truly. Here goes nothin'.

1. What is the story behind your blog name?
First off, when deciding upon a blog name, I knew that I wanted it short and sweet. So that was the first criteria. Second, I wanted a blog name that truly represented me as a whole. Think big picture. So once I narrowed it down to those two requirements, it was simple.

The "Texas" part of my blog name is because I am a native Texan. It's something that I'm not only extremely proud of, but I feel like it's a way of life. That being said, don't get me wrong: I am a lover of other states as well, and I also have several friends in other states (hello, blog friends!).

The "Mrs." part of my blog name represents who I am in the most holistic form. I may be a lot of things (ex: friend, graduate student, shopper, wine-o, etc) but "Mrs." is the best description of me.

Therefore, Texas Mrs. is the best fit.
2. What’s your biggest accomplishment in life?
Speaking of my blog name, I need to mention something kinda neat about myself.

When God created me, he molded me to be a wife. That is my purpose on this earth. I am 100% confident in that. Therefore, marrying my best friend has been the biggest accomplishment in my life thus far. I honestly don't foresee anything topping that either. Not even having kids. Don't get me wrong; I definitely (without a speck of doubt) want kids. However, I don't believe you should put your kids before your spouse. Just my opinion.
3. What is one piece of advice that you live by?
Don't compare your life to others... because you will be disappointed.

I recently saw someone post a social media status about how they don't understand why so&so has such an easy life. It made me so freaking mad. Wanna know why? Because they themselves appear to have such an easy life yet I don't dwell on that because I know their life isn't perfect; they pretty much showed that in writing the status.

Everyone apparently always wants what they can't have. So living your life comparing yourself will only make you miserable. I choose to accept my life as it is - blessings and trials and all. No, my life isn't perfect but I sure make the best of it.

4. What is one of your favorite memories?
From sixth grade until my sophomore year in college, I was a proud band nerd. I completely own that!

Marching Band was easily my favorite memory as a youngster. Every time I think about those good times, a smile winds up on my face. I lived for Friday pep rally's and football games in high school. Another fun fact: back in my day, we prayed before we marched out on the field. Yep, that's what living in the bible belt will do to you. And yes, it was the entire band as a whole; not just a few of us. Now-a-days, I have no clue if they still allow that. I think my experience was pretty neat.

College marching band was also a great memory! Because of my involvement in the Bearkat Marching Band, I really grew to love my university even more. I felt like my college experience was the most traditional one ever, which I love! My confidence in being a student even led me to rush the sorority that I wanted! You can read about my experience here.
Gawd... does anyone remember the choker trend from the early 2000's?
5. Why do you blog?
I blog for several reasons! Here's just a few of them:

+ I enjoy writing. I do not claim to have perfect grammar or spelling, but in general, I just enjoy the process of writing. Or rather, typing. Same difference.

+ I feel like blogging can be therapeutic in that others can connect to you based upon the topic you write about. You never know when someone else is going through the same experiences as you!

+ I like making connections. Playing off the previous bullet point, I enjoy being able to connect to new friends. Who knew I would meet such amazing people, like Ashley!

+ It's a way of life. Honestly, once becoming a blogger, it becomes a part of your life. It's a routine. And a fun one, at that.

6. Do you like winter or summer better? Why?
True story: My body shakes uncontrollably when I am cold. Apparently I have extremely thin blood, because it's nearly impossible for me to get warm in the winter time. I am constantly wearing sweat pants and a hoodie in the house. That being said, I am a summer girl.

I would so much rather than sweating, with the heat pouring down on me than to be even semi cold. I just feel miserable when I'm cold. However, I think if I lived in the north or was exposed to cold weather long enough that I could eventually get used to it! Not only do I currently live in Texas, but I central/south-ish Texas. It does NOT snow here. Nope, never.

Taste of Tuesday: Avocado Chicken Pizza

This weeks theme must revolve around my lack of pictures. Because upon fixing dinner last night, I dove straight on in, started eating and THEN realized, "Oh, I meant to take a picture for my blog."

At least my tummy was happy with the foodies.

Moving on, with the exception of a quick back story about today's recipe. A couple of weeks ago husband and I went to one of our favorite local places and they had this new pizza. I knew immediately we had to try it out. When the pizza arrived, I was a happy lady. Then tasting it was like a little slice of heaven in my mouth.

Anyways... before I go too much into it, here's what you'll need.

Pizza dough (thin crust)
Olive oil
Grilled chicken
Smoked bacon
Fresh avocados
Mozzarella cheese
Fresh cilantro

I sorta cheated when fixing this yummy din-din. Have y'all ever heard of Papa Murphy's? It's a "Take and Bake" concept where you build your own pizza at their store, then take it home and cook it yourself.

So that's what we did. Hey, I still added the avocados once the pizza was fully cooked. Therefore, I should get some credit.

Your end result will look similar-ish to this.
I had personal preference to load up on the avocados. OMIGOSH seriously good. If y'all haven't tried it, please do it asap. Your mouth will thank me!

And while we're talking about the amazingness that avocados are, I MUST tell you about this new contraption that we got at Sur La Table recently. As the product advertisement says, "you can split, pit, slice and scoop avocados safely and easily in no time." And boy is that true.
It's easily one of the better things that I've spent $10 on. You can get one online too right here. I may go get another one just to have handy for the future. You can never have too many avocado slicers. Amiright?

Don't forget to link up with Ash and Jess! Happy Tuesday, friends! I sure hope it's a tasty one for you!

Weekend Update

I don't have a ton of pictures to show for this weekend, but lemme say that it was amazefest.

Friday after work, hubby and I rented a redbox, opened a bottle of vino, and cuddled up on the couch. Of course I was a grandma and went to bed before 10pm. It was so worth it though. I love sleep. And our bed is beyond comfortable. So it was pretty supreme, if I do say so myself.

Saturday we cleaned the house a little bit and then that evening, we went to see The Butler with our neighbors. It was a good movie! The end made me tear up. Forest Whitaker was absolutely awesome in the movie. If you haven't already seen it, I would definitely suggest it!

Sunday, we spent the day running around. We bought husband two new pairs of shoes. We also cleaned the house a little bit more. Nothin' wrong with a little spring cleaning. Then of course, True Blood season finale was on last night. It didn't end exactly how I wanted it to, but it was still okay. There were some decent parts in it. Breaking Bad was also on, but I was too tired to stay up to watch it since we missed when it originally came on at 8pm. I will have to watch that later this week sometime. No spoilers, please :)

In a few weeks, husband and I are going to be taking our second anniversary photos. Yes, it's a tradition. And yes, time flies by. Wowzer. Here's a glance at nearly one year ago:
I just adore those pictures.

That leads me to my next thought. I have already picked out my outfit. I'll be wearing a denim shirt with white ankle jeans. I'll wear tan wedges and plenty of jewelry. Duh. For husband, which outfit do you like more? Option One or Option Two? Vote, please! Him and I each have our favorites but I need y'alls input. My outfit is on the left (clearly) and the outfit in question is on the right side.
I like the idea of red, white, and blue in Option One, but Option Two seems to flow really well together. Can't wait to take the pictures and then show y'all. And a fellow blogger is our photographer. So cool, right?! More details to come soon.

I hope everyone has a happy Monday.

That's all for today. Happy Hump Day!
