Happy Blogiversary to Texas Mrs.

In all technicality (is that even a word), I've been blogging since January 2010. It started out as a online diary of sorts for me. I would write about what I did that day, just to have some way to reflect back. It had to be the most boring thing ever. I'm pretty sure my blog name was simply my name - Allison. How original.

A year later, I decided to change my blog entirely to "start fresh." This time I decided to share the blog link with friends/family. I still had no idea what "blogging" was. During this time, I was engaged, wedding planning, and eventually a newlywed. My posts essentially revolved around that topic.

Thennnn, in October 2012, I finally "got it." I finally understood what it meant to blog. Right away, I started planning everything out. I knew it would take some time. I had to decide many things - what my blog name would be, what my layout would look like, and just an overall plan of attack. I decided that my first blog post for Texas Mrs would be in the new year. And that's exactly what I did. On January 3, 2013, one year ago today, I started blogging - for real.

Side note: I decided on the blog name Texas Mrs for two reasons. First, I wanted my blog name to be short so that my hyperlink (www.texasmrs.com) would not be too lengthy. Second, Texas Mrs encompasses two very special things to me - being a Texan, and being a Mrs. It was just that easy! Originally I wanted Mrs. Texas but that would have made NO sense considering I'm not a beauty queen - haha!

Blogging (for real) was definitely a learning process. When I first started, I didn't know what link ups, giveaways, or sponsors were. I look back now and think, "oh you poor child." But now I know. And that's all that matters!

Anyways, in honor of this first official blogiversary of mine, I am doing a giveaway. One lucky Texas Mrs reader will win a cute Jessica Simpson Crossbody. Don't think I didn't consider keeping it. I wanted it all for myself. But when I went to the store, it was my intention to find something special for my readers. And that's exactly what I did!
The above image is exactly what the Crossbody looks like. One side is more brown tinted, and the reverse side is more black tinted. It's so cute. It will literally go with anything that you wear! The original tag is still on it (duh) and will be shipping free to one lucky reader. Here is a link to similar images (except different colors). To enter to win the Jessica Simpson Crossbody, simply input your information into the Rafflecopter below. Also leave one piece of advice that you learned in blogging!

  5. Yay for one year!! Blogging advice - be consistent and write about what YOU want to write about, not what you think will make you "fit in."

  9. Yay! Happy Blogiversary! Mine was a year at the end of last month and I missed capturing it. Whoops! I think one thing I learned in my first year was to really be yourself and do what YOU love on YOUR blog. Those that love it too will read and those that don't.. won't. But good thing I decided to be one of those follower/stalker/bloggy friend on your blog..cause I luuurve it!! ;)

  10. Happy Blogiversary!! My advise...always replay back to comments! I think readers love the interaction!

  11. Happy Blogiversary!! I would say the best piece of advice is that to gain follows, you have to interact with other bloggers!! Don't be a passive blogger and expect the readers to come on their own.

  12. I didn't learn this in my first year, as I didn't become a serious blogger until about 3 years in, but always write for yourself first. Don't publish something you don't care about or enjoy writing just because it's the "popular decision" in blogging right now.

  14. Happy Blogiversary!! My one year was yesterday. What a learning curve it is, right?! I think the biggest thing is to respond to those who take the time to comment and make sure it is via email and not just on your blog. If people think you don't respond they will move on quick. Interaction and building a community is what it is all about.

  16. Happy blogging anniversary to you! My best piece of advice is to write posts that are interesting to YOU at least. Because if even you are bored by your post, chances are other people won't enjoy it, either!

  21. My advice would be not to try and avoid Twitter. I did not realize just how much networking was done through that piece of social media alone!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You are a far more successful blogger than I am, HOWEVER, my piece of advice would be to remember that your space is your release. I always feel a lot more peaceful getting out whatever is on my mind to write about that day. I have a minor, no, major obsession with your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Love reading your blog and being in the same "phase" in life as you. Happy Blog Anniversary!

  24. I think that just be yourself is my advice. Happy blogiversary!

  25. I have been blogging less than a year, but one of the most important pieces of advice I have received has to be: "don't ask people to come follow you all the time because you will attract the people who like your blog and thats how relationships will begin through blogging." I loved this advice because at first I really wanted to get out there and say "HEY, come to my blog, even though I thought it was awesome I had to remember others may not! Lol thanks for the giveaway this bag is to die for!!

  29. I'm not a blogger - yes, I'm the only person left in the USA who doesn't blog! As a blog reader, I can say that my favorite bloggers have found the balance between too much/just enough personal "sharing."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Happy Blogiversary! :) I learned that its so important to reciprocate commenting/conversations. Readers want to connect with the blogger!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I learned that it takes hard, hard work and lots of time to grow a blog. It definitely doesn't happen overnight like I once imagined! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I learned to keep at it even if people don't comment.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In my first year of blogging...I definitely learned that its important to TALK with your readers. Who wants to continue commenting on a blog where you get NO feedback/responses?! Boring! I I also learned that its important to stay true to WHY you started blogging in the first place. It's easy to get caught up in the hype, and I'm loving blogging for me :) love your blog and am SO excited for you. That crossbody is cuuuute...and my fingers are crossed ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. oh gosh I love this little cross body!! so cute! and happy blogiversary! today is my 4 year!

    ReplyDelete
  35. it would help if i read your topic ;) I didn't really get any advice my first year because I didn't reach out and try to get any readers. But as I've gone on, I'd say it's to blog for yourself and not just post stuff to post like alot of people do.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I realized that you just have to write about what makes YOU happy! Not everybody else!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Congrats!!! :)

My blogging advice is to start by doing linkups if you need help getting started posting. It's a good way to generate content, find other blogs and get new followers yourself!
