Kensie Grace's Newborn Photos

We did Kensie Grace's newborn photos when she was 10 days new, on June 15, 2015. We're kinda in love with our baby girl. Isn't she the most beautiful thing ever?! My sister took them - she is so talented. She also took these maternity announcement photos. If you live in the Austin area, I would definitely recommend her :-)

Baby Registry Items: Must Haves

Before baby girl arrived, I could only guess what the best items were to register for. Everyone has advice on the must have registry items out there, but the truth is: you know your baby best! My husband and I know, without any hesitation, what works best for our daughter. SO! These items are what work for us. Once your baby arrives, you'll quickly learn his or her preferences.
Sound machine - My hubby and I have always used this one and I definitely recommend it. It sounds like the hum of a fan, in my opinion, and totally drowns out distracting noise. Kensie must have heard it when she was in my womb because these days, she loves the thing and always falls asleep quickly when the machine is on.

Humidifier - Since baby girl sleeps in our room, our noses thank this little number for keeping us from getting too congested. It holds plenty of water to last a couple of nights, but also has a light inside that tells you when it's empty.

Swing - Kensington sleeps in this bad boy every single night and loves it. I can't say enough good things about it. If your baby doesn't sleep well, or if you wanted to experiment with different sleeping arrangements, it may be worth a shot!

Wipe warmer - Everyone said, "don't buy a wipe warmer... it will spoil your baby." But I strongly disagree. That is the silliest thing I've ever heard. Unless you're living on the road, or change you baby at a different location every single time, then what's the harm in having your child's wipes warmed up a little bit? Kensington is so much happier when the wipes are warm. We love this one

Now that you've seen my list, do you use any of these for your little one? Or do you swear by another product? I want to hear from you!

Loves and Hates

Today I am copying Ashley because she said I could. So there's that. Here are 10 things that I lurve, and 10 things that I hate.

1) Napping. Praise Jesus for naps!
2) Blogging. When I have time. But let's be honest, I am still learning time management skillz with a new human being running my life.
3) Daytime TV. It's kinda my new thing.
4) Country music. And the dancing that usually pairs well with the music. One of these days, we're going to have a date - just me and hubby - to go dancing.
5) Photos. In my "free time", I have a tendency to look through old photos on my cell phone and reminisce.
6) Coffee. It runs my life these days. Hey! I was overdue for some. I drank zero coffee during the months leading up to pregnancy and during my whole entire human-baking time.
7) My new job! I feel so blessed to be able to stay home during the day with Kensington and work during the evening (part-time). I just started my new job on Monday and I can already tell I am going to be very happy there.
8) Walking. Around 8:15pm this time of year is the prime time to go on a walk around the neighborhood. But I can only do certain days of the week since I'm working in the evening part-time now.
9) Makeup. It's such a luxury to be able to put makeup on these days. But I sure do love it.
10) Movies. Going to the movies is great, but staying home and watching a new flick is a guilty pleasure of mine. My favorite type of movies are war movies such as American Sniper, Zero Dark Thirty, Fury, and Lone Survivor.

1) Texting. Yea, I said it. Sorry not sorry. But I'm also a terrible person to try to reach via phone. I guess I (nor others) can win. Eek.
2) Washing bottles. So many bottles.
3) Unsolicited advice. No thankie.
4) Wounds. More specifically my c-section wound. I am just not a fan of this scar on my body. It's massive (well - to me. But in reality it's not that big) and scary looking. I am afraid to shave and touch the dang thing. Bodily things just kinda freak me out.
5) Copy cats. But I get it - imitation is the biggest form of flattery. Yadda yadda yadda.
6) Inconsideration. I am speaking specifically about people whom don't respect other peoples time. It really grinds my gears.
7) Dryness. I want to always have lotion accessible.
8) Complainers. I just can't. Don't even get me started - ESPECIALLY when it comes to people who complain about pregnancy or motherhood.
9) Dirty house. It drives me totally bonkers. Which is why when people say, "sleep when baby sleeps" I want to kindly wack them in the face. If only they knew how I felt about my house being unorganized.
10) Rushing. I get so stressed out when I feel as though I have to rush to get something finished or be somewhere on time.

You Need These Apps!

Yay! A non-baby related post. I know there are some of you out there that are saying, "Thank you Jesus!" Well, don't get too used to it. I kinda am in love with being a mommy blogger. Anyways, I have a fun post in store for you today.

Don't ask me why, but I've had a hankering for exploring new apps on my phone lately. So today's blog post is bringing you my recent favorite apps, and asking that you share your favorites! Try to think outside of the box and share new apps that not everyone knows about (for example, everyone has heard of My Fitness Pal, Pinterest, and Instagram). Anyways, here are my favorites!

The Wonder Weeks
Thanks to Jen and my sister for recommending this app. It has been a life saver. I even downloaded the e-book to my iPhone so I can read more in depth about Kensie's development. Per the iPhone app store, the app "describes in-depth ... incredible developmental changes your baby goes through." The reason it was recommended to me was because there was one day (around 4.5 weeks old) that Kensie had an extremely fussy day, which is totally out of her character. Well, it turns out, that she was experiencing a mental development, which can be a scary thing for newborns, who don't understand our world. If you have a newborn, or once you do have a newborn, I definitely recommend this app!

My hubby recommend this app and it is so cool! He is super techy and he always surprises me with his ability to stay updated on new gadgets/apps. Basically, the app can easily be explained by "if this, then that." You've heard that saying before, right? Well, the app has really neat "recipes" for you to utilize. For example, one thing that I have set up on my IF account is if I take a picture on my phone, then save it to my google drive. Per the iPhone app store, some popular ways to use the app would be to: 1) Post all your Instagrams as Twitter photos, 2) Turn your Nest Thermostat down when you leave home, or 3) Get an email when a new apartment matches your Craigslist search. Anyways, there are tons of ways to use this app, and I highly recommend it!

My friend from church, Nikki, told me about this app. I haven't actually used it, but I love the idea of it SO MUCH that it's on my list of favorite new apps. In a nutshell, it's a grocery delivery service. I know there are several services out there for this, but for some reason this one is my favorite. I am obsessed with the idea of having my groceries delivered to me, especially now that I've got a newborn. And the best part? Your first delivery is free. You better believe I will be using this app soon to get my free delivery.

ReceiptPal & Receipt Hog
I learned about these apps from Saving with Shellie, which I have claimed before is one of my favorite blogs of all time. As you can read from that site, both of these apps are meant for you to earn points just by taking pictures of your shopping receipts. Eventually, once you get enough points, you can trade it in for gift cards to places like Amazon or PayPal. I'm obsessed.

Okay people. Now that you know my favorite recent apps, what are yours?

... But Seriously, Parenthood.

Kensie Grace is almost 6 weeks old which blows my mind. I am so thankful to be her mama. There is nothing better. This parenting thing is so much fun. But seriously, wouldn't it great if children came with instructions? Luckily, I've picked up a thing or two since her birth day. Anyways, here are a few tid-bits that I've been feeling lately...
... but seriously, I miss sleep.

... but seriously, if you have a problem with how much I post about Kensington on social media, then I suggest you unfollow me. :)

... but seriously, I'm getting stronger by the day. Hello, heavy carseat.

... but seriously, just because some women breastfeed or pump, doesn't make their babies any smarter or healthier than formula-fed bundles. (For the record, we're strictly doing formula due to a medication that I was taking, which removed all excess fluids from my body, thus making it difficult to create a healthy supply/production.)

... but seriously, holy hotness seeing my hubby care for our daughter. You know - the daughter that is a perfect little mixture of both him and I??? OMG. I still die thinking about it.

... but seriously, I'm not butt-hurt over it anymore, but it becomes very apparent who is important in your life and who is less important. It surprises me that some people who I've been close with in the past haven't asked, "when can I meet Kensington?"
... but seriously, my priorities have changed and I kinda am in love with this new life of mine. What did I do before Kensington?

... but seriously, I legitimately cried during my postpartum appointment since I won't see my doc for another year (or until we get pregnant again). But then again, I have the best doctor ever (read more here). When you're preggo, you see your OBGYN all the time and they help you through the pregnancy. Now that Kensie is here, I want to bring my doc home with me for his continued guidance.

... but seriously, let your mom stay with you the first week home with baby. She will help you a ton.

... but seriously, we go through 500 million diapers and wipes per day. Holy expensiveness.

... but seriously, how great would it be if we got pregnant naturally instead of through IVF again? A girl can pray. Otherwise, I will look forward to the day when our frozen babies are placed back where they belong - inside my belly.

... but seriously, this love is the best kind of love. Thank you Jesus for seeing me fit to be Kensie's mama.

Kensington Grace: One Month

Weight: At least 10+ lbs. At her last pediatrician appointment, she weighed 9lbs, 12oz and that was on 6/24/15 (almost 2 weeks ago). Babies are expected to gain a certain amount of ounces per day, so we know she's definitely more than 10 pounds.

Height: At her last pediatrician appointment, she had grown an inch since her birth, making her a whopping 20.5 inches. But of course that was almost 2 weeks ago. She had definitely continued to grow like a big girl!

Hair: Brown, just like momma and daddy's.

Eyes: Blueish greenish.

Clothes: Size 3 month.

Diapers: Size 1.

Sleeping: She sleeps right next to mommy either in her Rock N Play, her swing, or her Pack N Play (it just depends on what Kensie prefers on any given day). Usually sleeps in 2-3 hour stretches. We are so looking forward to the day when homegirl sleeps longer. Sleep deprivation is a very real thing in the Skinner household.

Eating: Eats 2-4 ounces every 2-3 hours. More times than not, she likes 3 ounces every 3 hours. We made the emotional decision to just feed her formula. Of course we have reasons for making this decision, and I don't believe that we should have to conform to society's pressure of breastfeeding or pumping when we have valid reasons for what we're doing. We know that Kensington is getting everything that she needs, plus mommy gets to spend more time with her instead of using free time to pump.

Kensie's favorite things: When mommy sings, "Jesus Loves Me", bathtime, a clean diaper, and being rocked.

Mommy's favorite things: Being Kensie's mommy, talking to Kensie, and dressing Kensie in adorable clothes.

Daddy's favorite things: Giving her 10 million kisses at a time (she squirms so much hehe), and "talking" for her in a girly voice. He likes to pretend that she is having conversations with us.

Mommy's nicknames for Kensie: Doodle, Doodlebug, Booger, Boo.

Daddy's nicknames for Kensie: The Kenz, Princess.

New with Kensie: Everything is new! She laughs and smiles when she's sleeping (I don't suppose she is doing that on purpose), but just the other day, she gave me a real smile when I was talking to her. Also, she holds her head up like a strong little girl.

New with mommy: I have lost a good portion of weight from pregnancy, but my body is forever changed. I have a major mom tummy (don't judge) and wear my pants up really high to avoid putting anything on my c-section incision. I still wear maternity clothes and my wedding bands don't fit... but I am bound and determined to drop some pounds once I can start exercising again.

Prayer: God, thank you so much for giving us this precious gift. Kensie's daddy and I grow to love her more and more every second. She has completely changed our lives and we never take for granted that you saw us fit to be parents. Please guide us as we continue to learn what life is like with a newborn. Help us to always trust your perfect plan. I pray for Kensie's health and continued growth, and I pray that you'll always have your hand over our lives to help raise her in a loving, Christ-centered home. Thank you so much for this blessing!
